  • Facilitating ongoing learning and skill development. This has included Janet facilitating structured learning sessions aimed at building up everyone’s ability to discuss our diverse strengths, experiences and values with one another. Perhaps as importantly, Janet has improved capabilities across our organization through more unstructured relationship-building and knowledge sharinLike many organizations, we spend a lot of time thinking about how we center HPSM’s vision – that Healthy is for Everyone – in all that we do, and how we live our “HEALTHY” values. The practical, day-to-day work of translating that aspirational vision into concrete norms, policies, decisions, and skills is not a box to check. Rather it is an ongoing practice. HPSM has benefitted tremendously from Janet’s leadership in helping us to shape those practices and hold ourselves accountable to “walking the walk.” I would whole-heartedly recommend Progressive Discoveries to any organization looking to advance their workplace culture and create a professional environment where everyone can thrive. ❞

❝ Our organization has had the privilege of working with Progressive Discoveries and Janet for the last several years. She has played a crucial role for us as a partner in our ongoing workplace culture journey, including:

  • Launching and analyzing a customized culture survey for a deeper-dive understanding of inclusion, equity, diversity and accessibility topics than we obtained from prior employee engagement surveys.

  • Helping us design and launch our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Group. This group was not created as a top-down mandate, but rather through the recommendations and co-design efforts of employees, which Janet facilitated and kept moving towards implementation. This group continues to surface new ideas and insights into how we keep building up HPSM’s culture.

❝When I first met Janet shortly after George Floyd’s murder, she challenged me to take a deeper, non-performative approach to the DEI-B initiative I wished to mount at Homebridge. Challenge accepted, and now, more than 3 years later, Janet has provided the leadership and vision necessary to meaningfully transform our agency’s culture. This realignment of our internal values has been very hard work, and we are not yet done, but Janet single-handedly took ownership and initiative to help us build out our vision of a more inclusive and welcoming culture, and we’ve made it happen. Today’s Homebridge is a very different place than when we started our work, and we owe most of that to Janet’s commitment to the effort. Her work with Homebridge has been truly tireless, and it did not stop at the surface, but dove deep into every corner to help bring every member of our team forward together. People were heard, people were supported, decisions were transparent and we all walked our talk. I couldn’t possibly give a stronger recommendation than this; Janet will be the very best team member you could hope for in this challenging work.❞

 Become an Employer of Choice....

I was a new training manager at Weyerhaeuser Corporation which was quite daunting. I was tasked with helping our subsidiary, Winchester Homes, with achieving JD Powers #1 and Best Employer in the DC/MD/VA market—no small feat during the fast-growing real estate boom at the time. Janet was assigned to me, by Weyerhaeuser’s corporate office, to deliver the first training program for which I was responsible; Getting to Yes. Having never used a consultant for in-house training, I was nervous; worried she would fall short, that she would make me look foolish. Worried the participants would believe I wasted their time, especially since the class was full of land acquisition and procurement teams, many with over 20 years of experience, including multiple vice presidents. Essentially, Janet was tasked with teaching these “experts” how to do their jobs; even now, nearly 20 years later, I cringe at the thought.

Janet was simply marvelous. Her energy, confidence, humor, and solid knowledge of her subject matter ensured that my worries were unfounded. She won the hearts and minds of all the participants and made me look like I knew what I was doing. After that, Janet was my go-to for everything I could possibly find for her. Our employees—from top executives to construction staff—were lucky enough to participate in many off-the-shelf, Weyerhaeuser-sanctioned, Janet Williams-delivered courses such as Leader’s Window and Giving and Receiving Feedback. She also crafted custom courses for us, including a very creative spin on the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) that was so popular that employees put their type on their office doors and cubicles. People rushed to sign up anytime they knew she was delivering a class or hosting a workshop. I’m sure it’s no surprise that we achieved both goals of JD Powers #1 and Best Employer. I know we could not have accomplished those without Janet. I haven’t worked at Weyerhaeuser since 2008, but my former co-workers always want to know how Janet is doing and bring up what a fantastic asset she was.

When I became the director of Human Resources at the next organization, one of my first calls was to Janet. This time she was providing support to the water industry, including—at the time—the employees in the most cutting-edge, technologically advanced water reclamation facility in the world. Once again, she became a favorite of the staff, delivered fantastic off-the shelf courses, and dazzled me with more custom-designed programs.

Janet doesn’t just create and deliver training; she becomes a trusted advisor to all levels within an organization. Janet does her research to understand how a business operates, identifies opportunities to improve, and analyzes potential blocks to achieving goals. She is comfortable working with all levels of staff, in all areas; finance, business development, sales, product development, construction, manufacturing, you name it.

I could go on with more examples, but know that by now, you’ve got the gist; Janet Williams is phenomenal and will certainly be an asset to you, your business, and your staff. ❞

❝ It is my pleasure to offer my unreserved recommendation for Janet Williams, for any position, at any company at which she desires to serve. In my 20+ year career in Human Resources and Training and Development, I have written less than five letters of recommendation, because I will only write one when my support is completely unwavering. I have no hesitation in providing this to Janet. She is an asset to any organization of any size, in any industry.

❝ I first worked with Janet in the early 2000's when I was the Executive Director of the Sorensen Institute. She provided diversity training to aspiring political leaders and a spectacular job of discussing challenging issues with people from across the political spectrum. Years later when NatureServe was seeking assistance in DEIB planning, policies, and training I knew exactly who to call--Janet Williams. She lead the entire organization in discussions that established a can-do attitude among staff around all issues related to DEIB. I cannot recommend Janet highly enough for her professionalism, sense of humor, ability engage, and her dedication to developing new understandings. I hope I have the chance to work with her again in the future. ❞

❝ Your leadership, wisdom, and kindness benefitted not only the Alliance as a whole but also each individual with whom you had contact. I am extremely grateful for the time and opportunity I had to observe and learn from your leadership style and expertise. I relayed my gratitude for the work you are doing with the Alliance regarding DEIB and leadership. The Alliance is benefitting so much from this partnership, and I can see enormous improvements in morale and understanding already as the result. ❞

❝ It was well organized, and the instructor transitioned smoothly from discussions to activities. The energy and enthusiasm was positive and because the instructor cultivated a safe space to share and bond. ❞
